The once proud Attorney General for the State of Pennsylvania has been sentenced to prison for leaking grand jury documents to the press then lying about it while under oath.  She could have been sentenced to much more time.  Her attorney had asked for probation.  in fact, she tearfully asked for probation but  Judge  Wendy Demchick denied that request and  imposed prison instead.

Kane was handcuffed and marched from the courthouse to the Montgomery County Jail, where she must stay until she posts $75,000 cash bail, if she intends to appeal . Should she appeal , she runs the risk of being re sentenced to more prison time.  Kane argued that being tossed from her job at Attorney General,  a criminal conviction and loss of her law license should be punishment enough. She claimed her two teenaged sons would suffer.

Kane’s safety is a consideration, as her  high profile position in law enforcement  could make her a target from other inmates.

Kane is the first female every elected to service at Attorney General.  Bruce Beemer ,the Current Attorney General released a statement that reads:

“Today is another sad day for the Commonwealth and its citizens. The Office of Attorney General is moving forward with steps to restore the public’s confidence in the work that we do and the way that we do it.

The men and women of the OAG are dedicated public servants who do their jobs with integrity on a daily basis. That is what the public expects and deserves.”
