Pedestrian killed in front of Northeast High School

Police in Philadelphia are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident on the 1900 block of Cottman Avenue today, January 31 2017. No students from the school were involved and the driver did stop and is cooperating with police. Reports are sketchy as nothing has been confirmed. Police said the man ran into the street. However, the impact happened in the vicinity of the crosswalk. It has yet to be determined where the impact took place,. The victim, a man in his 50,s was struck by an east bound car and he was thrown several feet. His shoes were separated from his feet and were strewn on Cottman Ave.
The crash happened just after 11:00 AM. Police said that speed may be a factor in the crash, The car had substantial damage done to it’s hood and windshield. No names have been released at this time. The man has pronounced dead by 12:30 PM. Any decision about charging the driver of the car will made later, police said.
