Delaware Fire Police Officer Struck and Killed At Crash Scene

Laura Madara  was a Fire Police Officer  for the Selbyville Fire Company, in Delmarva Delaware.   She was helping at an accident scene on Polly Branch Road  near Lighthouse Road, about 1:00 PM April 9 2021.   When the call had concluded,  the fire police were picking up their equipment and  getting ready to go home. Madara was positioned behind a yellow Selbyville Fire Police Truck. That vehicle was driven by a 79 year old member of the department and he started to reverse, in the F-250. He struck Madara who sustained critical injuries.

Madara, 56,  was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Madara was also the  president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the firehouse.
