Hit and run accidents are a too common occurrence in this area.  People that commit them think they won’t get caught.  That’s what Tyreek polite , 28, of Philadelphia was probably thinking. Police said that during the early morning hours of December 4 2021, he was allegedly driving a minivan through the intersection of 23rd Street and Ridge Avenue. It was 4:39 AM when he allegedly struck 64 year old Raymond Hodgins. Instead of stopping, police said that Polite drove away.

All of a sudden, there were witnesses. They cooperated with police but could only give a limited description of the vehicle, which fled south on Ridge Avenue. Hodgins was rushed to Temple Hospital, but was pronounced dead at 5:03 AM.  Police found out where the striking vehicle was and were able to size it. They made an arrest that same day, of Tyreek Polite, of Philadelphia. He is charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Homicide by Vehicle, Accidents Involving Death and related charges.

Had he stopped, he may have gotten in trouble, but nothing like the charges he is facing.  Had it been deemed an accident, He would have not been arrested at all.
