When you walk through downtown Philadelphia, you can see over 100 plaques dedicated to people that have pioneered or contributed to music . The people that get these awards either live in Philadelphia,or work there. Today, October 3, 2017 a brand new class of inductees will be able to walk down South Broad Street and see their plaques. They were unveiled today, in front of the Kimmel Center.

Police cut one lane of traffic on Broad Street to handle the crowds and that almost was not enough, as  several hundred people showed up to see Patti LaBelle,  Sarah Dash and Nona Hendryx who made up LaBelle. Sister Sledge and Jill Scott.  To top if off, the Soul Survivors were there as well. There were brief remarks given by City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson who have each of the inductees a proclamation.

This event ,which is held annually, always draws a good crowd. Some know what is going on, and bring records or tapes to be signed. Others have no idea what the fuss is about and walk away with a smile at having seen a star.  This is the first part of the induction ceremony. The second will take place tonight at the Fillmore in Fishtown for a star studded gala.
