Graham Nash, was in the area Friday night, March 8, 2019. he played an eclectic show of music at the Scottish Rite auditorium in Collingswood New Jersey. If you were in South Jersey, this was the show to see . Nash took the stage a few minutes after 8;00 PM and played two sets of music, plus encores. The first set consisted of songs casual fans might not be totally familiar with. “Myself At Last”, “I used To Be A King”,were mixed in with “Military Madness” . Nash includes this song in just about every set, about how stupid wars and conflicts really are.
He paid homage to his former band mate, Stephen Stills by called him a “great , fantastic songwriter and an extremely underrated guitarist.”. He did not hoist any accolades David Crosby’s way. During the second set, Nash was playing his more commercial material, which was great. A blistering version of “Ohio” . Take a Trip back to the 1960’s with “A Day In the Life” , a Beatles cover, or “Bus Stop”, from his days with The Hollies, of which Nash was a founding member. He had the crowd on their feet. He also had them sit down for his quieter songs.
This crowd was mostly older people that grew up and appreciate seeing real musicians play real music. No laptops or sampling, and certainly no backing tracks. Graham Nash not not need of of that nonsense. When he played “Just A Song before I Go”, he said it was the biggest hit they ever had. “If I knew it would have been so big, I would have written a better song,” he joked.
There was no opening act. If you missed him, he will be back in the area March 31 at the Queen, in Wilmington Delaware.
