Philadelphia Firefighter funeral to be held today, Traffic detours in effect

The funeral for Michael Bernstein, will be held today, March 26, 2019. Bernstein was the Philadelphia Firefighter who died from a medical emergency while on duty at the Philadelphia International Airport. He served the city for over 20 years. He will be promoted posthumously to the rank of Lieutenant.

Traffic will be diverted on Academy Road from Red Lion to Comly Road in both directions. This closure will start at 8:00 AM, to give members a chance to form up and march in a procession from  Academy Road to the Givinish Funeral Home, on Academy Road.  That will start about 8:45 AM. A viewing will beheld for two hours, from 9:30AM until 11:30 AM.

The funeral will take place at St. Jerome Church on the 8100 block of Colfax Street.  A private interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery on Hulmeville Road in Bensalem. immediately following the service. Benslem Public Schools will dismiss early. 11:15 AM for the High School, noon for the middle schools and elementary schools  will be let out at 1:00 PM
