Bensalem Owls Fall In Home Opener

Bensalem High was the place to be locally, last night. It was the home opener. The theme was America as was evidenced by all of the students dressed in red white and blue. They took their positions in the student section just after gates opened and they were loud. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm was not enough as the Owls lost to the Pennridge Rams. This team is located in Perkasie Pa. This was a non conference game.

This game started out like it would be a contest. Bensalem’s defense held the Rams away from the end zone for the first quarter. The Rams defense held Bensalem from scoring for the entire game. The end score was 33-0 .Bensalem suffered an injury in the first quarter that resulted in a player being taken out of the game.

High School Football in this region is not as popular as it is just 40 miles or so away. In those area, like Easton, the stadium is packed with home and visitors . Food trucks line the streets and do a brisk business. It is not uncommon to draw 5000 or more to a game. Last night, there was not even 500 people in attendance.

Bensalem is 0-3 while the Rams are 1-2. The Rams scores 13 points in the second quarter and 20 more in the fourth. Pennridge has not yet played their home opener. On September 14, they will host Abington in their home opener.
