Two very different Halloween events were held pretty close to each other, yesterday. Both are fairly new and if you missed them, don’t worry, they will be back next year.
The first was a Halloween Safety Night, which was held at Givnish Funeral Home on Academy Rd. This free event is featured face painting, and pumpkins that children can draw faces on. All of the materials to do this were provided free. According to John Givnish, “This is a great way we can introduce ourselves to the community and have them come here and meet people when it’s not in a funeral setting”. He added they have some locations that have car shows or tree lightnings for the holiday time.
Children were given tips to keep them safe, like always have an adult with you, carry a flashlight and make up is better than a mask. Also don’t eat any candy unless it’s been inspected. A small flashlight was given to children as well as a bag of candy. Adults were given hot dogs and a small bottle of water.
Just up the street at the Cornwells Firehouse, on Bristol Pike a Trunk or Treat was held. This type of event allows children to come in costume if they want, and various businesses and organizations will give out candy from the trunks of their cars. This event is also fairly new, sponsored by the Bensalem Lions Club, hundreds of children showed up to get free stuff.
The Bensalem Rescue Squad was there, as was District Judge Mike Gallagher as well as the Bensalem Police. Both organizers said that they will return next year.
