Everyone Is Entitled To My Opinion- On Morning Rituals

by Paul Big Bear

Dear Friends,

How do you start your day? Are you a jogger, walker, member of a gym, perhaps you are into yoga or tai chi? How about breakfast, do you eat a good meal; eggs, potatoes, breakfast meat, and something toasted and buttered, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, S.O.S. Maybe you are a lighter, on the run eater and a donut, bagel, or muffin is more your style. You could be one of the many whose breakfast waits at the drive through window. Are you a proponent of breakfast is the most important meal of the day? However you feel about breakfast, chances are you start your day with coffee.

My Grandfather never started his day without a cup of coffee his choice was to run the hot water till he saw steam and fill his mug with his instant coffee and hot water, stir and sip. My father would put the tea kettle on and wait with his instant coffee in his cup for the whistle to blow, and then he would add milk and sugar and stir for over a minute before sipping. My grandmother would have a pot of coffee perking on the coal stove, twenty cup capacity and there were more pots perked before the long day was over. Restaurants, diners, even fast food and donut shops with drive through window pick up have coffee. What convenience store would stay in business without small, medium, large, and extra large coffee on the menu, hospital workers, firemen, cops, military will all tell you how important coffee is.

Black, cream, cream and sugar, flavored, and let us not forget Irish coffee. On a cold winter night what is served with cookies coffee and hot chocolate. My grandfather on a hot day preferred ice coffee to ice tea. My mother drank hot tea with cream and sugar, many turn to juice in the morning; orange, pineapple, grapefruit, mixed vegetable, and tomato. During the day cold sodas and iced tea top the bill joined by lemon aid, a favorite fare of many young entrepreneurs and their road side stands. Still, do you have a favorite coffee mug/cup that you faithfully pull out to start your day, when all is said and done isn’t it the thermal mugs and thermoses filled with hot coffee that top the list. How many thermal mugs do you have in your kitchen cabinet gifts advertising a business, sports team, or politician all claiming to keep your cold drinks cold and your hot drinks hot, and how do they know. Yes coffee is the winner served worldwide, twenty four hours a day, I’ve never been asked “May I see your I.D?” or “Have you been drinking coffee tonight?” And I have never been asked to blow into a balloon. I’ve gotta go the pots full, who wants a cup of hot java?
