The Target parking lot on Easton Road in Abington Twp. was the place to be today. A pre- National Night Out event was held and it was very successful. With the weather tomorrow going to be rainy and tomorrow is the actual day for National Night Out, it looks like Abington was the only event happening locally.
This is an event to bring the community together. While area police and federal partners join together, almost 100 different vendors showed up. This includes elected officials and businesses that paid to sponsor the event. They got to set up a table and give away brandedl items to help promote themselves.
While some of the police departments were giving away pens and pencils, others were giving away practical items like drink covers, to insure young girls don’t get to be a victim of someone that is tainting their drink when they go out. The Upper Moreland Police Department won with promotional items, with logo embossed plastic cups that turn purple when filled with a drink.

About 1000 people showed up. Governor Josh Shapiro was supposed to be there but did not show up by 7:00 PM. It was a time to get information on how not to fall victims to a scam. Your grandchild has not been arrested and does not need money for bail and there is nothing wrong with your computer. Also you do not owe any money to any federal agency that contacts you by phone.
National Night Out was formed in 1984. Locally, several police departments have similar events. Due to the threat of bad weather, Bristol Township has canceled theirs. Bensalem moved theirs to August 27, 2024. As this goes to press, Philadelphia is hosting many different events and all are a go.
