City Streets To Be Closed For Police Officer Funeral

A public viewing was held today at the Givnish Funeral Home on Academy Road, for Philadelphia Police Officer Jaime Junior Roman. Today, Academy Road was closed in both directions. Members of the police command staff marched from Arch Bishop Ryan, followed by rank and file officers. Behind them, were recruits in the latest academy class.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel spoke for a few moments outside the funeral home and reiterated the fact that Officer Roman always put his family first. He was injured in the line of duty but died at the hospital this month.
Tomorrow is the funeral service. There will be multiple road closures starting at about 5:00 AM. police will march from Police Headquarters to the Basilica on the Ben Franklin Parkway, at 6:00 AM.
What follows is a list of what roads are closed and parking restrictions that will be in effect.
he following streets will be closed from 5 a.m. until the conclusion of the service on Thursday, September 19:
- 18th Street between Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Vine Street
The following streets will be closed from 5:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the procession on Thursday, September 19:
- 15th Street between Spring Garden Street and Callowhill Street
- Broad Street between Spring Garden Street and Callowhill Street
- Callowhill Street between Broad Street and 17th Street
- 17th Street between Callowhill and Benjamin Franklin Parkway
The following streets will be closed from 6 a.m. until the conclusion of the service on Thursday, September 19:
- Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 16th Street and 22nd Street
- Vine Street between Logan Circle and 16th Street
- Race Street between 17th Street and 18th Street
- 17th Street between Vine Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway
- 19th Street between Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Cherry Street
Additional streets in the vicinity of Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Eakins Oval may be closed or detoured by Philadelphia Police should conditions warrant.
Parking Restrictions
The streets listed above will be posted as “Temporary No Parking” zones. Motorists must adhere to “Temporary No Parking” signs. Vehicles parked in these locations during posted hours will be relocated. If you believe your car has been relocated, call the police district of the area where your car was parked.
Public Transportation
SEPTA route detours will be put into place and service is subject to change. Customers should refer to System Status regularly for updates to routing throughout the day.
