President Donald Trump was in Malaysia , doing a trade deal on October 29, 2025. It’s important work and it is exhausting, not to mention the flight halfway around the world. That is why many people thought he would not be at a simple, lighthearted event to hand out chocolate bars at the White House for Halloween.
Yet at 5:46 PM, the President Of the United States strolled onto the south driveway of the White House, with First Lady Melania , for the sole purpose of giving candy to children of military and law enforcement families in the DC region.

The event lasted for several hours, The line of children with their parents snaked down the driveway of the White House. It seemed like it was never ending. Some parents went up with their children to the president, while others walked up a makeshift pedestrian pathway to take photos of the moment.
The White House was decorated for Halloween with autumn leaves cascading down the south side of the building. Large Jack-O Lanterns and pumpkins glowed on the steps leading to a balcony. On the balcony and on both sides of the steps was a military band. They were playing Halloween themed music. Ghostbusters, the theme to Halloween, Thriller and the eerie music to Willy Wonka, for example,

Donald Trump and Melania both had baskets they were giving out candy. Full sized Hershey bars were given to children. No cheap dollar store candy mixes. The line stretched for hours. People had to be cleared by security and then they waited until it was their turn in front of POTUS.
Trump did not make any remarks during the event. He came out, escorted by a handful of children dressed as witches and other scary beings and then got right to work handing out candy to children, just 24 hours after dealing with trade wars and tariffs.
