Car Slams Into Pole, Closes Bensalem Road

by Alex Lloyd Gross

Bensalem emergency crews were called for a crash about 8:00 AM at the intersection of Bristol Pike and Haunted Lane. Upon arrival, it was determined the incident was actually on Haunted Lane, about 30 feet from the intersection. A car had crashed into a utility pole, cracking it about three feet above it’s base.

The injury to the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was said to be non life threatening. No other vehicle were involved in the accident, police said.

The utility pole will have to be replaced as it is in danger of falling. When that happens, the area on Haunted Lane will have to be closed to traffic, near Rt.13. Traffic should be able to come up to the closed portion, from State Road. PECO workers have previously said the cost for replacing a new pole can run from $12,000 through $20,000 depending on what is involved. A short power interruption will happen when the new pole is put in service.
