A fast moving rainstorm caused traffic problems for many motorists in Bensalem and Bristol Township this morning. From about 10:30 AM until just before noon, roads flooded, causing some drivers to be trapped in their vehicles as they tried to navigate puddles that had been passable just 30 seconds prior.
Whether a someone makes it through a puddle depends on several factors. The type of vehicle and speed. An SUV is less likely to get stuck than a passenger car. On Station Avenue in Bensalem, vehicles got stuck as did at least two vehicles in Coydon, on Cedar Avenue. Those spots are notorious for flooding. Other spots such as Forest Ave and Progress Drive also flooded.
The storm drains could not process the water fast enough on Trace Drive, which caused several vehicles to stall out in flooded waters. Police blocked the road for about 15 minutes, before the road was passable.
When a car stalls out in flooded waters, it can be an expensive repair. By 12:15 PM roads were starting to clear and most of the vehicle that stalled out were pushed to the side of the road.
