Red Ribbon Week started 32 years ago ,in 1985.when the Bensalem School District and Bensalem Police Deapertment commemorated the murder of DEA agent Enrique Camerena. Today, October 27, 2017 , about 2000 school kids , marched, from Snyder Middle, Shafer Middle and Rush Elementary Schools north on Hulmeville Road, to the township Amphitheater, where a brief program was put on. Bensalem is in Bucks County Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.
Shortly after 9:00 AM Hulmeville Road was closed as the students marched north on Hulmeville Road. They were escorted by multiple police as well as Bensalem Fire Rescue . The students took their time, as they entered the township complex through the back , so as not to disrupt traffic on Byberry Road. The entire walk took about 20 minutes. Most, if not all of the students were wearing red ribbons, to promote drug free living, while acknowledging the drug problems that are in their community. As the students walked, they were joined by some members of the police department command staff.
