Funeral held for Philadelphia Fire Lieutenant Michael Bernstein

Emergency responders from the region paid their respects for Michael Bernstein,  the 20 year veteran fireman from Philadelphia, who died last week after suffering an illness at work. He was detailed to the Philadelphia International Airport  Unit.  A viewing was held at the Givinish Funeral Home on Academy Road last night, and today. Shortly before 9:00 AM firefighters made their way from Engine 22’s quarters which is located at Academy and Comly Roads.

All along Academy Rd people lined the streets to catch of glimpse of the funeral cortege and to pay their respects. Students from Arch Bishop Ryan lined up as well. The actual service was held at St. Jerome Church in the northeast, a short distance from  where the viewing was taking place.  From their, the Bod yof Lt.Bernstein was loaded onto his engine and driven to Resurrection Cemetery for a private burial.

As the procession entered I-95 from Woodhaven Road,  the expressway was closed to all traffic for the entire duration . The route took them off at Street Road in Bensalem, and north on Hulmeville Road.  Police were on hand to close westbound Street Road. and Hulmeville Road until the entire procession entered the cemetery.
