Lenape Valley Foundation to Host Suicide Prevention Conference in October

Lenape Valley Foundation will host a suicide prevention conference in October with the focus being on “Least Restrictive Levels of Care for Suicide Prevention.”

The conference is set to take place at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown on October 7.

The keynote speaker is Charles T. Browning, M.D.  who is the Chief Medical Officer of RI International.

Browning has devoted his career to improving the systems and care experience for mental health needs. Additionally he has held leadership positions in public and private systems of care including Crisis System Care, Assertive Community Treatment Team, rural community behavioral health care company, and Opioid Treatment Programs.

Browning also promotes several initiatives in collaboration with RI International that deal in rethinking approaches to crisis response and suicide prevention

The conference  also will include afternoon breakout sessions.

One of these sessions will feature the viewing of the film, Here One Day, presented by the filmmaker Kathy Leichter.

 

Leichter is an award-winning producer and director of social issue and historical documentaries. She is the founder and president of Mint Leaf Productions and Two Suns Media.

Here One Day (Two Suns Media) is an award-winning, feature-length documentary about mental illness and suicide in the filmmaker’s family.

Leichter is currently implementing a national, multi-year media outreach campaign using the film and community dialogue to reduce stigma around mental illness and suicide, connect audiences to support, teach how mental illness and suicide impact families, and improve mental health policy.

Registration for the conference begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The conference is open to the public, however reservations are required and space is limited.

Registration is $25 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. This program has been approved by the National Association of Social Workers for six continuing education credits.
