Bucks County will play host once again to the autumn #HoldOnYouMatter Walk on November 2 to raise money and awareness for suicide prevention.

The event will be held at the Upper Bucks campus of Bucks County Community College at One Hillendale Road, Perkasie. Check-in and same-day registration will be at 1 p.m., and the walk begins at 2 p.m., rain or shine.

The three-mile trek will mark the county’s sixth suicide prevention and awareness walk, and the second to be held in Upper Bucks. All walkers raising or donating at least $10 will receive a walk t-shirt.

To register in advance online, go to crowdrise.com/holdonyoumatterfall2019

Money raised through the walks is used to help address suicide in Bucks County by developing awareness, prevention, intervention and postvention activities. Since the inception of the walks, more than $200,000 has been raised for such efforts, including about $65,000 in 2018 alone.

“As a survivor of my daughter’s suicide, this event allows me to embrace and walk with others who grieve, remember and need to make a difference,” said County Commissioner Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia, a champion of the walk since its inception.

About 500 people turned out for last fall’s walk, the first time the #HoldOnYouMatter event had been held in Upper Bucks.

“The Upper Bucks community support for this walk last year was truly phenomenal, and I am sure we will be graced by a remarkable turnout again this year,” Marseglia said. “I am so proud to walk with Buck Countians who understand suicide is a preventable tragedy. Together we will keep helping those in pain to just `Hold On’!”

This year, organizers have added a touch of celebrity by enlisting the attendance of Miss Pennsylvania, Tiffany Seitz of Pittsburgh, who has a compelling story of her own to share. Learn more about Ms. Seitz here: https://tinyurl.com/y47cwn2l

In addition to contributions from individuals, the walks have been supported by roughly 25 organizational sponsors over the past five years.
