Police in Lower Moreland, Montgomery County PA have charged 71 year old Michael Petrocik, of Glenside with Homicide by Vehicle While
DUI, DUI, Reckless Driving and other charges
after he was involved in a fatal pedestrian accident on December 29 2021. The crash happened on the 3000 block of Philmont Avenue, at 12:21 PM.

Police arrived and found the pedestrian, identified as Mary Duffy, who was walking her dog.  They also found the Audi that Petrocik was driving, 164 feet away from Duffy.  She was rushed to Abington Hospital  but died on December 20, 2021. Her dog did survive the crash.

The investigation determined that Petrocik was driving at an excessive speed, police said. He was driving north, when he failed to properly negotiate a curve , and hit Duffy, knocking her into a pole.  The Audi then hit a stone wall and went airborne.

The investigation determined that the Audi was traveling between 45 and 48 mph in a 35mph zone before the crash, and that the defendant failed to react through theentire event, as the crash video showed no evidence of the Audi’s brakes being engaged, police said.. Police issued a statement that said  that crash investigators determined that the cause of the crash was directly related to the manner in which Petrocik was operating his vehicle, including excessive speed, and Petrocik’s alleged  level of impairment. Laboratory testing on the defendant’s blood found that he allegedly  had multiple controlled substances in his system.

He was released on $20,000 bail and will have his next court date on March 12, 2022
