Rock legend Tina Turner died today. She was 83 years young.  She passed from illness in Küsnacht Switzerland, which is near Zurich. She had an illustrious career spanning the 1960’s to the mid 2000’s. During her career, she played multiple concerts but none was more memorable for people in this area than her appearance  that hot summer day in 1985.

It was Live Aid at JFK Stadium.  For those that might not know, this show was huge. It showcased  dozens of artists who would appear in Philadelphia and London.  There was no headliner, there were only musicians.  It was during Mick Jagger’s set late into the evening, when Turner was called to the stage.  She wore a bright black leather  short dress and pranced all over the stage.

She did two songs, “State of Shock” and “It’s Only Rock and Roll”.

The two songs were all that was needed, to bring this show to legendary status. Photos from that show, specifically Mick and Tina were circulated all over the world. With artists at this show like Madonna, Black Sabbath and CSNY  reunited, that shows you the intensity of her star power.  JFK Stadium would be torn down less than 10 years later.
