Bensalem Holds National Night Out

by Alex Lloyd Gross

Bensalem Township held their National Night Out last night, due to the original date was postponed from August 6. Had they not made the decision to postpone it, a torrential downpour would have interrupted the event, causing vendors and attendees to scramble for cover. The storm would have hit right in the middle of the event. Last night, the weather was perfect. Bensalem Police gave out free ice cream to top it off.

The Philadelphia Flyers brought their Community Caravan to the township building which included Gritty, who taunted an FBI Agent in some good matured fun. It was a time for people to come out, see static displays of SWAT trucks, a command bus and see a K-9 demonstration.

The crime scene unit was capturing everything by a drone. Even Philadelphia Tac Air got invited and flew by for a few minutes. There were tables set up for local elected officials to engage their constituents. State Rep KC Tomlinson took a break from door knocking to show up and meet people in person.

This event ran until about 8:30 PM. It was the first time a professional sports team partnered with the Bensalem Police. Director Of Public Safety Bill McVey said the Flyers contacted the township and arrangements were made to have them show up. The police gave out small promotional items like freebees, pencils and eyeglass repair kits.
