BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA — The fire service community in Bucks County is mourning the loss of a veteran firefighter and leader. Life Member, Past Chief, and Fire Police Captain Ed Margavich of the Third District Volunteer Fire Company (Station 14) died this week from injuries sustained while performing duties at an arson fire in Croydon on August 8.
Margavich’s passing was announced by Fire Officials, which described him as a cornerstone of the company since joining in 1960. Over his 64 years of service, he rose through the ranks to serve as Chief, later continuing his commitment as Fire Police Captain.
“Ed was known for his kindness, wisdom, and the infectious laughter that brightened our meetings,” the company said in a statement. “His spirit will be missed by all.”
The Goodwill Hose Company No. 3 (Station 52), where Margavich was also a Life Member, paid tribute as well, noting that he remained an active part of the Fire Police up until his passing. “We offer our sincere condolences to the Margavich family, Third District Fire Co., and the Bristol Township Fire Police Unit,” Station 52 said. “Rest easy, Ed. You will be missed.”
A memorial has been placed in front of Station 14 in Margavich’s honor, where members of the community are welcome to pay their respects.
Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito’s investigation determined the fire was an act of “Arson”, the Fire Marshal and Police Investigators continue to investigate the blaze.
Funeral and memorial service details will be announced at a later date.
