City To Re Open Closed Greyhound Bus Terminal

Currently, passengers who stop in Philadelphia for Greyhound Bus Service are let out under a bridge on Spring Garden Street. There is no shelter from the elements—just a strip club nearby. That will change in May, said Mayor Cherelle Parker. The shuttered terminal near 11th and Filbert Streets will be fixed up and reopened, just in time for Philly to take the stage for America 250.

The facility has been closed for three years, officials said. The city will partner with the Philadelphia Parking Authority. A fee charged to bus carriers will help pay for the revitalization efforts, city officials said.

New lighting, landscaping, and bathrooms are just some of the improvements that will be done, officials said. “Bus transportation is the most affordable mode of transportation. It is not supposed to be any less comfortable,” Mayor Parker said.

The terminal is near Chinatown. City officials said bus traffic will not impact the quality of life for Chinatown residents and visitors.
