As Mi9chael Whitehead was driving through Lower Moreland Twp on Philmont Avenue March 23,2026. His passenger headlight was not working, he has expired inspection stickers and his registration was not current, having been expired since last October.
To top it off, the officer detected a strong smell of marijuana in the car. Whitehead tried to explain that away by saying that his girlfriend fired up a joint in the car before he dropped her off before dropping her off at work, police wrote in court documents.
This is probable cause to search the car. As the officer was explaining to Whitehead about the search, he remembered that there was weed in the car and turned it over. The o9fficer was given permission and found a digital scale and multiple empty baggies in the vehicle.
The glove box was locked and Whitehead agreed to start the vehicle to open it. As he was about to do that, he called a female on the phone and told her “I’m going to jail”. He then told officers a pistol was in the glove box and when police looked inside, found a Ruger hand gun fully loaded, according to court documents.
A records check found Whitehead was done and he was found to have a felony background, which mean he was unable to possess a gun. Those charges were for drugs. Whitehead was arrested and charged with drug and drug paraphernalia offenses as well as the firearm.
