The Burlington County District Attorney’s office announced earlier this week its charged a woman from Morrisville, Pa with bringing drugs into a New Jersey correctional facility.
Camey Springer, 50, of West Trenton Avenue in Morrisville, Pa, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Third Degree), Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with Intent to Distribute (Third Degree), Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Third Degree), and Providing an Inmate with Contraband (Disorderly Persons) on Tuesday.
According to Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina, the investigation was initiated when an inmate housed at the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Wrightstown, was found to be in possession of synthetic marijuana known as K2 and crushed pills. Further investigation additionally found Springer supplying Subutex and Suboxone, which are drugs used to treat opiate dependence.
The investigation also revealed Springer, who is the assistant director of the Gateway Foundation, supplied drugs to the same inmate while he was incarcerated at Southern State Correctional Facility in Delmont, Cumberland County, prosecutors say.
The New Jersey Department of Corrections operates both facilities Mid-State is designated as a licensed treatment facility for state inmates. The drugs were supplied by Springer various time in 2018 and 2019., authorities said.
The investigation was conducted by the New Jersey Department of Corrections Special Investigations Division. Springer will be prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Brian Faulk, supervisor of the BCPO Special Investigations Unit.
