James Chandler is 55 years old. He is from Philadelphia and you might think he is old enough to know better than to rob people. You would be wrong. Now he will spend the next 21 years in a federal lock up after two instances of robbery of a postal vehicle and kidnapping the mail carrier. The incidents happened in west Philly.
Chandler entered a guilty plea to kidnapping and two counts of robbery of a postal worker, in September 2021. He used a fake gun and that fact had no bearing on his sentence. He would steal packages and forced a postal worker to drive him around for several blocks in the city before running away
Targeting and violently assaulting employees of the United States Postal Service is a serious federal crime,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Williams. “Mail carriers provide an essential service to nearly every citizen and business, oftentimes going above and beyond to execute their duties in challenging circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Chandler terrorized two postal workers at gunpoint, and he will now spend decades behind bars for his actions.”
