Disgraced Council Member Bobby Henon Sent To Federal Prison

When Bobby Henon was in city council, he did a lot of good things. he helped a lot of people. He was always a fixture at Cottman and Frankford for community events and he helped get much needed COVID vaccines into the northeast when they were needed.  A federal jury said he a did some bad things as well.

He was found guilty of accepting bribes by way of a $70,000 Union salary from the Electrical Workers Union. He was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for his crimes.  He has until April 17,2023 to report to prison. He will also be on probation for three years.  He will forfiet $207,000 and pay a fine of $50,000.

 

 

“I accept this sentence and will do my time.”, Henon said.

He helped Johnny Dougherty  ram through the Soda tax to get at Dougherty’s nemesis in the Teamsters Union. That legislation in 2017 cost countless people to lose their jobs and was responsible for a store closing in the city.  He did this by menacing other council members who were not in favor of this tax.

When John Dougherty’s car was towed, he demanded Henon hold hearings on tow companies and he also got  Henon helped Dougherty get the Department of Licenses & Inspection to issue stop-work orders on the installation of MRI machines at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which was being done by out-of-state, non-union workers.

The FBI wiretapped his phone conversations which were often laced with profanity and the jury hears those conversations and saw photographs  during Henon’s trial.  The prosecution wanted to send him to prison for 10 years. Henon wanted probation.
