If it’s Labor Day Weekend, that means the folks at Canstatters are putting on the Oktoberfest on their property. This public event runs the entire Labor Day weekend. It features beer, food, crafts and even more beer. There are soft drinks for children. This IS a family friendly event.
As you walk through the gates, you will see several tents selling homemade crafts, sports team t shirts and food. It’s all pretty reasonably priced, too. Handmade windchimes made from household silverware, wood painted Halloween cats and pumpkins were just some of the items for sale.

The food and beverage station is located in the dead center of the complex, where they were taking tickets for food, no cash. Ticket booths were placed around the property, 20 tickets were $10.00. You could enjoy hamburgers, or chicken tenders, maybe bratwurst at one of the outdoor picknic tables, or you could go under a huge tent , where music was being played.
Some people arrived in old German, Bavarian clothing, all had a blast. Just a few feet past the tent, is the Fireplace Grill, where you can buy roasted chicken, ripchin or schnitzel . The chicken is always a crowd favorite and you can dine on a chicken dinner and a drink for under $20.00.

Children will enjoy the amusement park that is there, with rides for small children or adults.. No roller boasters, but they do have a Trabant and a swing. You can also try your hand at the largest pinball machine or just play carnival games.
People come from all over for a day or even a weekend of fun for this event. It is looked forward to by tens of thousands of people. People refer to is as Volksfest, or Oktoberfest or even the Labor Day Festival. It’ runs until Monday night. You can go there or you can battle traffic on your way home from the shore..
