BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A Philadelphia man is behind bars after police say he fired gunshots in the parking lot of a Bensalem motel Thursday night, shattering a car window and sparking a heavy police response.

Bensalem Police were called to the Knights Inn on Route 1 around 9:11 p.m. on October 2 for reports of shots fired and an armed suspect, according to investigators.

When officers arrived, they spoke with a driver who reported that the rear side window of his car had been struck and shattered while passing through the motel lot. A second witness told police he saw a man firing two shots in the lot.

Detectives said the suspected shooter, identified as Steven Kilcrest, 38, of Knorr Street in Philadelphia, returned to room 185 at the motel, which was registered under his name.

While officers secured the scene, Kilcrest exited the room unarmed and was taken into custody. A search of the motel room uncovered a .40 caliber Hi-Point semi-automatic handgun with a live round chambered and five more rounds in the magazine, along with two spent shell casings found outside.

Police said Kilcrest is prohibited from owning a firearm. He was charged with aggravated assault, persons not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, reckless endangerment, and criminal mischief.

Kilcrest was arraigned by District Justice Brian Marriott and committed to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10% of $500,000 bail.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

Note: Criminal charges, and any reporting thereof, are merely allegations and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
