No SNAP Benefits and LIHEAP Delayed Under Government Shutdown

Due to the fact that federally elected officials cannot get their act together, vulnerable, working people will suffer and pay the price. For the first time in the history of this country, there will be no SNAP benefits disbursed for November. Those that have an unused balance on their card are not affected but that is only until the balance runs out . The card will not be reloaded.

People that have problems paying the electric bill will continue to have problems as the opening of the program that helps with bills, LIHEAP will not begin to take applications until December 3,2025. This is because they did not get an allocation for 2025-2026 funds. Currently, over 300,000 Pennsylvanians benefit from this program.

No new Social Security applications will be accepted until after a budget is passed. The sticking point is the funding of the Affordable Care Act, which has been a target of the Trump administration since his first term. While on the campaign trail, Trump vowed to keep the ACA and not dismantle it until and unless a newer plan is passed by congress. He said that a year ago as he was cosplaying a McDonald’s worker in Feasterville, in an attempt to woo voters.

Democrats want it funded. Republicans say that should be debated at a future time. This means higher health insurance premiums for people who need the subsidy to survive. Medicaid is being targeted as well.

This is being done by elected officials who receive free healthcare as a result of being elected to serve the very same people they are attempting to screw over, say advocates for avoiding the shut down. If course, non essential jobs and functions are closed due to the shut down. You cannot tour federal historic sites . Essential workers, still must work but they are not getting a paycheck. Either they dip into their savings or use a credit card. Many people, like air traffic controllers simply have not gone to work or have cut down their shifts that they do work.

Once the budget is passed,they will be paid for the time they did work, but that could be weeks or months from now.
