Tow Truck Driver Shot To Death On Bustleton Avenue

UPDATE JAN 12 2026 9:00 am FROM POLICE: Upon arrival, officers located a 25-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body inside a tow truck. Medics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene at 8:00 p.m. A second victim, a 21-year-old female, sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg and was transported to Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition. The deceased male was later identified as Aaron Whitfield of the 6400 block of Clearview Street. At this time, no arrests have been made.

The tow truck was on a sidewalk when a grey vehicle, possibly a Honda pulled up next to it. Two people got out and fired over 20 shots at the truck, including on through the windshield of the truck. Some of the bullets struck a window of a building which housed a senior activity center. No one in the building was struck, police said.

A tow truck driver was shot to death as he sat in his tow truck on Bustleton Avenue near Knorr Street. This happened just after 8:00 PM Jan 11. A passenger, reported to be a female also sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition.

The tow truck was shot at least 12 times. in the passenger side door. There is no official word on if the windows were shot out as well. There were ballistic evidence on Bustleton Avenue that police were marking off.

There is no word on any arrests or if the gun was recovered. The tow truck was registered to 448 Towing.
