A Philadelphia Wings Game Is A Great Event To Go See

by Alex Lloyd Gross

For people who know about the Philadelphia Wings, those folks know Philly sports. For the rest of the town, it’s probably the best fun you’re not having. The Wings play lacrosse, which is very similar to hockey. It involves running, checking other players, and fighting for the lacrosse ball, which must be shot into a net. The action is fast-paced. They play at the hockey/basketball arena in South Philly where the Flyers and Sixers play.

Last night, the Wings fell to the San Diego Seals. Had the game ended at halftime, the Wings would have been on top. In fact, it looked like they were going to run away with the game. The halftime score was 4–1, including goals by Michael Sowers, Joe Resetarits, and Brennan O’Neill.

Unfortunately, the Seals woke up after halftime, coming alive to score eight more goals and win the game by a final score of 9–7. Penalties by the Wings cost them dearly, as they spent significant time a man down and the Seals dominated. Just like in hockey, when the opposing team scores, the penalty ends. The Wings were penalized for holding, checking from behind, and illegal substitution.

Last night’s promotion was KISS Night, with the band Cold Gin playing music from the legendary rock band. They were set up in the lobby and provided walk-on music for fans entering the arena. The band was in full KISS makeup, complete with dry ice smoke, and “Gene Simmons” even breathed fire. “Ace’s” guitar even smoked. Many fans wore KISS shirts to the game, and some even dressed up in makeup.

Cold Gin played “Shock Me,” “Detroit Rock City,” and “Beth,” and they closed with “Rock and Roll All Nite.” Unfortunately, there was no confetti storm for the finale.
