35 year old Lauren Carter of Chester PA was charged this week for allegedly pouring bleach on piles of cat food last month in Chester. That neighborhood has several cats that are let outside by their owners or are strays.
On two occasions, Carter is alleged to have poured bleach on piles of cat food left out by neighbors that enjoy taking care of the cats and feeding them. Carter was caught on video and police were called. The next day her home was raided as Humane Police secured a search warrant to look for evidence which they found.
The charged of Animal Cruelty are misdemeanors and carry heft fi9ne and potential jail time. Internet comments when the incident was first reported call her her to be fed bleach herself, call for her to be assaulted in prison and body shamed her.
No cats were hared and none appeared to have eaten the tainted food. One senior cat , Jumper sniffed at the food but did not consume any. Jumper’s human, Olivia Oliver was mortified when she saw the video. Carter was too ashamed to speak with the media and either did not answer the door when the media came looking for answers, or she yelled at them for reporting the story.
Her next court date is scheduled for later in June.
