A two year old is safe after a car thief tried to steal a 2004 Toyota Sienna. The driver was outside of the vehicle last night about 8:00 PM on the 8600 block of Frankford Ave. He was waiting for his girlfriend to get water ice and the baby was in the car. He was right next to it, police said. That;s when the thief jumped into the car and took off.
Police spotted the vehicle and chased it to the Roosevelt Blvd. from Academy and Grant Avenues. The driver did not stop. Instead, he smashed head on into a police car and kept going until he reached Red Lion Road.
It was there, police said, that the driver hit a stopped vehicle and then collided with a tree. He jumped out and ran into some woods where he was arrested. No officers were seriously hurt in this incident and the baby was not hurt.
Charges are p[ending against the driver. His name will be released , along with his mug shot when charges are filed, police said.
