Muhyyee-Ud-din Abdul-Rahman from West Philadelphia was sentenced to no more than 40 months in prison, which translates to less than four years. He was found guilty of attempting to possess weapons of mass destruction, stemming from an incident that happened when he was a 16 year old juvenile.
He was charged under the state justice system and District Attorney Larry Krasner is not happy about the sentence. Krasner was seeking at least a decade behind bars.
According to charging documents, Rahman experimented with explosives and when he was surveilled by police, he went to Lowes and purchased muratic acid, which is a key component in making TATP, which is a very dangerous explosive. They also searched his internet browsing history and found he was looking at how to make trash can bombs and searched for parade routes.
It was also revealed that he communicated with KTJ, a radical terrorist organization in Syria, When questioned by police he said he wanted to “be their bomb guy”.
Rahman said that he matured while he was in prison and does not harbor the same thoughts. Krasner called him a would-be terrorist. and called the sentence light. Rahman served most of the sentence already in a juvenile facility. He will be out of jail after about six more months. Krasner said his office may appeal the sentence. Krasner referred to his as dangerous.
