On the afternoon of October 2 2026, Police responded to the 4100 block of Tyson Avenue, for a report of a male trying to gain entry to houses through the rear doors and garages in the area. As officers were on Frankford Avenue, they found a male matching that description and they attempted to speak with him
The male, later identified as Jamir Cave, 26. did not cooperate with officers..As officers approached him, police said he ran into the street. The officers were identified as
Officer #1: P/O Thomas Catalano is a 12-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department and is assigned to the 15th District.
Officer #2: P/O Christian Nguyen is a 3-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department and is also assigned to the 15th District.
Both officers’ body-worn cameras captured footage of the incident; investigators also recovered surveillance video and interviewed multiple witnesses.
According to police, a preliminary review of video evidence shows the male drawing back his right arm while holding the knife, with the blade pointed forward near shoulder height. Officer #1 attempted to create distance and fell backward in the driveway of a storage facility. The male briefly turned toward Officer #2, who backed away toward Frankford Avenue, before turning back and advancing toward Officer #1 with the knife as Officer #1 attempted to regain his footing.
Officer Catalano was treated for an elbow injury, police said and they did recover a knife at the scene. Police said the officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Philadelphia Police Department’s Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Unit, the PPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau, and the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. Per Department policy, both officers will be assigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
