Just before 6:00 AM March 13 2020 SWAT Officers in Philadelphia descended on the 1600 block of Bridge Street in Frankford to served an arrest warrant on Hassan Elliot, who was wanted for a March 2019 murder. As they arrived and announced their presence, gunfire erupted and Corporal James O”Connor was shot at least once in his left side.
Other officers returned fire, striking two people inside the house. They were rushed to local hospitals in serious condition with gun shot wounds to their lower abdomen area, police said. O’Connor was rushed to Temple Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:09 AM. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. He was a 23 year veteran of the force, serving 15 of those years with SWAT.
Elliot was taken into custody and charges will be filed against him in the 2019 murder and the murder of Corporal O’Connor. Police said not say if Elliot was the one that pulled the trigger today but they did say more than one person inside the house had guns. Elliot had just been paroled for felony gun possession in 2018. He violated his parole as well .
District Attorney Larry Krasner was turned away by police as he attempted to enter Temple Hospital. He has vowed to prosecute anyone involved with Elliot’s death .
