Two police officers were shot in the city of Philadelphia early today. The suspect who allegedly shot them was also shot. The incident started in the area of Cottman and Roosevelt Blvd. and ended on the 8100 block of Frankford Ave. Police said that two officers responded to a call of shots fired near Cottman and Roosevelt Blvd, about 2:00 AM. Police were given the description of a pick up truck.

Within minutes, officers would see a pick up truck matching the description and they tried to stop the driver for investigation, police said. The driver, did not stop and lead police on a chase . Officers from the Highway Patrol saw that truck and tried to stop in at Frankford near Welsh Road. It was there, that the driver rammed a police car, officers said.

He jumped from the truck and began to shoot at the offices, striking two of them. By now,there were four officers on scene and all four fired shots at the male, police officials said. Bullets landed on both sides of Frankford Ave.
Interim Police Commissioner John Stanford said that both officers are going to be fine. One was shot in the face, and head, the other in his face and leg. The suspect was a 40 year old felon with a long criminal record. He should never had had a gun. That suspect is in critical condition .
Stanford said one of the injured officers has been on the force for six years, and the other for 10 years. He also confirmed that the six-year veteran officers injured on Sunday was shot in the line of duty before. At daybreak, detectives were on the street, looking for any cameras that may have recorded the shooting.
