Philadelphia Eagles Hold Open Call Auditions For Cheerleaders

by Alex Lloyd Gross

The Philadelphia Eagles have started open call auditions for the 2024 season. It’s a lot different now when people auditioned. back in the 1980’s and 90’s , girls would go to Veterans Stadium, sign in, and be given a number. When their number was called they would line up behind a number on the field, dance to recorded music and be judged. Girls were filtered out with the remaining girls being offered the opportunity to advance to the squad. These were open to the public, where people could sit and watch the auditions and cheer on their favorite girl.

The auditions would move to the concourse of Veterans Stadium and at the new stadium, called Lincoln Financial Field, auditions were held in the suite level. These were private with no friends and family allowed. Open call audition would usually start about 11:00 AM and go to about 4:00 PM or later.

Now it’s different. It’s not just for girls anymore. You don’t just get up and dance, you have to learn a routine. There is a workshop to teach respective cheerleaders that routine. The team is hosting a pre-audition workshop on Wednesday, February 28 at Lincoln Financial Field. The workshop is designed to prepare prospective candidates for the audition process, which formally begins on Saturday, March 9 with the Virtual Open Call Auditions.

During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn the dance routine from choreographer Stephanie Demby-Afum, which will be part of the Virtual Open Call Auditions. With a concentration on dance techniques and across the floor choreography, participants will also gain insight into becoming an official brand ambassador and receive professional tips on how to film the audition video for the Virtual Open Call. Interested candidates can submit their Virtual Open Call Audition videos online between Saturday, March 9 and Saturday, March 23.

In addition to performing for over 70,000 fans at Lincoln Financial Field on gameday and representing the organization at hundreds of community events each year, the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders experience unique opportunities as members of the team. This year, the cheerleaders played an integral role in celebrating the highly anticipated return of the classic Kelly Green uniform. Donning their own version of the throwback-inspired uniform, the cheerleaders helped bring fans back in time to the early ‘90s era of Eagles football for the first time in nearly three decades. Members of this year’s team also took part in a special celebration commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders.
