“To those participating in this activity: do not think for a moment that you got away with it and that you will not be held accountable. There are cameras everywhere, there is a considerable amount of evidence to go through, PPD will use that evidence to make arrests when warranted”. That warning was issued by police to those that participated in the street takeover incidents last weekend.
More arrests have been make and police said there are more to come. On September 21, 2024, at 9:30 PM, officers assigned to the car meet detail responded to a large gathering in the Pep Boys parking lot on the 7200 block of Bustleton Avenue. During the event, a blue Dodge Charger accelerated toward two officers, forcing them to take evasive action to avoid being struck. The Charger then collided with a red Dodge Durango, which was not involved in the car meet. The driver of the Durango sustained minor injuries, and the vehicle was disabled.
As the blue Dodge Charger fled the scene, both officers were able to get a clear view of the driver and pertinent vehicle information. Following further investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for the offender and the vehicle. On Monday, September 24, 2024, the driver of the blue Dodge Charger, identified as 25-year-old Deonte Vincent of 70XX Torresdale Avenue, was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, three counts of Simple Assault, three counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and several related offenses.
At midnight, in the area of Columbus Blvd and Pattison Avenue, an officer observed a silver Nissan doing donuts in the middle of the street and doing a 180-degree turn heading towards his vehicle. The officer was able to maneuver out of the way and followed the vehicle and observed it come to a stop at 300 Pattison Avenue when the vehicle struck a pole. The officer approached the stopped Nissan, at which time four (4) males ran from the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle, Jhonny Martinez, 19/H/M, from Upper Darby, was apprehended and charged with REAP.
Police said those that are arrested also get their cars impounded as evidence. It does not matter that the car is their only mode of transportation, it’s getting confiscated and will be held until after all the court proceedings.
The plates of the cars that were in attendance have been entered into NCIC and they will be stopped by police where ever they are and the drivers will be arrested and cars confiscated, if applicable, officials said. .
