There is a new way that car thieves are trying to steal your vehicle.. Newer cars do not use keys, they use key fobs, which emit a radio signal and get the vehicle opened or started. Using a home radio receiver that is tuned to the frequency emitted by the fob. Now that they have the information, they can use it to gain access to your vehicle. It only takes a few seconds to enter and drive away.
Residents of the 7th Police District can stop by the 7th Police District at Bustleton Ave. and Bowler Street and pick up a free Faraday pouch. This device does not allow radio waves to penetrate to or from a key fob. As long as the fob is secured n the pouch.
Most people that have fobs, come in and place the fob near their door. Now that can put the fob in the Faraday bag and keep both near the door. The bag will help prevent someone from using a device to gain access to your car.
This device does not work on cars that have keys. This is for fobs only. If you can prove that you live in the 7th district, you can get a Faraday bag for free, while supplies last at the district.
