Teenager Shot and Killed Inside Restroom Of North Philly Chipolte


On Monday, January 12, 2026, at approximately 5:15 p.m., officers from the 22nd District and Temple University Police responded to a report of a person with a gun at 1100 W. Montgomery Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest inside the bathroom of the Chipotle Restaurant. Medics pronounced the victim on scene at 5:24 p.m. He has been identified as 16-year-old Khyon Smith-Tate of the 2500 block of North Hutchinson Street. At this time, no motive has been determined, and no arrests have been made. The Homicide Unit is actively investigating the incident.

The Homicide Unit is seeking information regarding several possible suspects. The first is described as a Black male, approximately 16–17 years old, with dreadlocks, wearing a black coat, a pink hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black sneakers, and carrying a red backpack. The second suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 16–17 years old, wearing a black coat, black jeans, black sneakers, and carrying a black backpack. The third suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 16–17 years old, with dreadlocks, wearing a black coat, blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black sneakers, and carrying a dark-colored backpack.
