In a commitment to fostering professional development and safety within law enforcement, the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police (PA FOP) proudly hosted the Force Science Institute’s: Force Encounters course this past week at the Philadelphia FOP Lodge. Designed to deepen understanding of the complex factors influencing officers’ actions during high-stress situations, the program focused on critical aspects such as threat assessment, sensory perception, decision-making, and memory.

Developed from peer-reviewed research and presented by experts in the field, the Force Encounters course provided a series of activities and real-world scenarios to help officers recognize and adapt to the psychological and physiological challenges they may face on duty. Officers from Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware, Philadelphia and other counties engaged in simulations and in-depth discussions, gaining valuable insights into how the human brain and body respond to rapidly evolving threats.

“This course is a crucial step forward in our mission to support the professional growth of our members,” said PA STATE FOP President Joe Regan. “Understanding how perception and decision-making are impacted during high-stress encounters ensures that our officers can perform their duties with greater awareness and safety.”

The training which was presented by the Force Science Institute emphasized evidence-based techniques that improve performance under pressure, equipping officers to make sound decisions while maintaining public trust. The PA FOP’s proactive investment in this advanced training highlights their dedication to enhancing officer safety, community relations, and professional excellence.

The Force Encounters program stands as a testament to the PA FOP’s ongoing efforts to provide cutting-edge education and resources to its members, ensuring they remain prepared and resilient in the face of daily challenges.
