Basement fire destroys Bristol Borough house

Firefighters from Bristol Borough, Bristol and Falls Twp.’s were called to do battle with a stubborn fire on Otter Street, near Swain Street.  The blaze was reported just after 1:00PM today, may 1 2017. Firefighters Were originally told a child was in the dwelling . That information proved to be false. “Everyone got out”, said Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack.  The child was in a nearby library. Crews were hampered by a basement filled with items.  “The basement was filled with things, the fire was deep seated,  it took a while for us to get to it, to get it out”, Slack said.

Crews remained on scene until just after 5:00 PM, making certain it would not rekindle . Six residents were displaced and three firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.  Otter Street was closed for over  four hours as Bristol Township and Borough Fire Police dealt with rush hour traffic. A cause has not yet been determined.
