Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin to Rehabilitate Eight Bridges in the Philly Region

The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 29, on an improvement project to rehabilitate eight poor-condition bridges in The Wolf Administration
“This bridge improvement project is our latest in the ongoing effort to improve bridges throughout the state, and to ensure a safe transportation network for all Pennsylvanians,” Governor Tom Wolf said.
Beginning Monday, July 29, through late August, the bridge carrying Stonybrook Road over Jericho Creek will be closed and detoured between Route 32 (River Road) and Slack Road in Upper Makefield Township, Bucks County.
During the closure, Stonybrook Road motorists will be detoured over Route 32 (River Road), Lurgan Road, Street Road, Route 232 (Windy Bush Road), Pineville Road, and Eagle Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
PennDOT’s contractor will rehabilitate the structure over Jericho Creek by adding concrete overlay to the bridge deck; performing concrete substructure repairs; replacing and resealing the bridge deck joints; installing scour rock protection; and milling and paving the roadway.
Built in 1973, the single-span bridge is 58 feet long and 48 feet wide. It carries an average of 738 vehicles a day.
Beginning Monday, July 29, through early September, the bridge carrying South Sugan Road over Aquetong Creek will be closed and detoured between West Mechanic Road and Stoney Hill Road in New Hope Borough, Bucks County.
During the closure, South Sugan Road motorists will be detoured over U.S. 202 (Lower York Road), Aquetong Road and Stoney Hill Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
PennDOT’s contractor will rehabilitate the structure over Aquetong Creek by adding concrete overlay to the bridge deck; performing concrete substructure repairs; replacing and resealing the bridge deck joints; installing scour rock protection; and milling and paving the roadway.
Built in 1973, the single-span bridge is 49 feet long and 38 feet wide. It carries an average of 813 vehicles a day.
The other structures included in this bridge rehabilitation project include the following:
- Route 252 (Bear Hill Road) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County;
- Route 563 (Mountain View Road) over Saw Mill Road in Haycock Township, Bucks County;
- Big Oak Road over Interstate 295 in Middletown Township, Bucks County;
- Cat Hill Road over Perkiomen Creek in West Rockhill Township, Bucks County;
- Park Road over U.S. 1 in West Nottingham Township, Chester County; and
- Morris Road over SEPTA in Whitpain Township, Montgomery County.
Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in late 2020.
Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on this $4,475,284 bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
