A teenage driver was pulling from a parking spot on the curb , across the street from Ryan High School, yesterday, March 6.  As she attempted to pull into traffic, authorities said her car came in contact with another car.  Within seconds, her vehicle was flipped onto it’s side and the other vehicle was pushed into several parked cars, parked there by students.

The teenage driver was taken by medic unit to a local hospital. The other driver was dazed but refused medical transport.  There were several parked vehicle with disabling damage.  Shortly after the crash scene, several distraught parents raced to the scene to access the damage done to their vehicles.

According to the school officials,  all of the parked cars were driven there by students. The school offers free, off street parking for the semester for $30.00 per vehicle. Students that do not wish to take advantage of that deal must take their chances, parking on Academy Road.

  1. i agree with everything you are saying except when it comes to tuition and parking fee..
your parents chose that school.. there are plenty of schools you could go to that are not $10k a year and that’s on them for choosing it .. you can go to public school- not debating quality of education because I managed to get a phenomenal education in Philly public schools, attend college and pay my OWN way through college /student loans etc..
while everything else you say is absolutely on point, no one needs to feel sorry for you or your parents because of CHOOSING to spend $ for education when it’s available free.
at 16 my car was totalled outside a city hs while I was in class.. difference being I was the one making the car payments, paying the insurance and not be just given a car to drive or have BECAUSE …
glad you are safe and not hurt but the entitlement part isn’t a good look especially when the rest of the piece was well written, thoughtful and on point.

    1. None of it was meant to seem entitled and I apologize if it came off that way. It was a topic that was brought up by one of the officers and brought me to realize that this is a problem for a lot of students. I genuinely do love my school, but whether you are paying tuition or not I think it’s important to consider the cost for students safety.

      1. I don’t think your statement came off as being entitled at all. Honey seems a little out of touch with reality. Your parents pay tuition because sending you to a public school isn’t a safe option.

    2. When did you attend a public Philly high school? I doubt it was recent. Philly public high schools are garbage.

    3. Last time I checked people get stabbed in public schools and they are easily the most unsafe schools out there. So yeah if I am a parent I would rather spend money to send my kid to a school that would be a safer option than that. It is genuinely ridiculous you care about “entitlement.” Disgusting human being

    4. No comment on this, you are absolutely ridiculous. Glad everyone has the same life as you Honey. I’m super glad public schools are so safe nowadays too!

  2. What your parents pay for tuition, or how much the school charges you to park. Your talking about safety, $30 for the school year is NOTHING! You spend more on one night a a movie for one person. If the parking situation is really the issue, pay the $30. And the last time I checked things happen… and when a vehicle crash happens, it is the occupants behind the wheel who are at fault. No matter whose fault it is. And unless the opposing vehicle blew through the stop traffic light no car will reach 85 miles per hour on that road. And to have such a tight knit story after that type of accident…. I was in a serious car accident and to this day, still can’t figure out what the hell happened because it happened so fast. We had to watch videos to see what truly happened! And just because your car flipped, doesn’t mean the other car was doing 85 miles per hour. If a car is hit in a certain spot and a certain way, a car can flip another car at a low rate of speed. This truly has nothing to do with the school, $30 dollars a day is nothing compared to what your insurance is gonna go up now… but again where you park has nothing to do with the accident… the people driving the vehicles do. Happy that all are ok, but it boggles my mind how quick people are to point the finger at something so irrelevant. You and your parents pay a lot of money to go to that school as a choice, no one is forcing that. So deal with it. There are other schools that are brilliant beside “public schools”. Which also has NOTHING to do with the accident.

  3. Blah blah blah, why are so many people on here arguing with one another over entitlement, choice of school, the cars speed and $30 for parking? We should all be happy that this student is alive and nobody suffered any serious or life threatening injuries! We need to all stop arguing with each other for the sake of being right and start to let people be who they are or say something without correcting them or trying to seem smarter!

  4. I agree with the assessment that people need to stop arguing stupid points to make themselves right.. seriously, no one cares and no one wants to watch your dumb tik tok videos either.
Academy Road is a crazy busy street and if your worried about accidents then pay 30$ for the year. Cheap for a safe parking space. And I wouldn’t send a dog to Philadelphia public schools… even most of the teachers won’t send their own kids, if truth be told.
