Police Surveillance Cameras Aide In Homicide Arrest In South Philly

On February 29,2024, police were dispatched to an armed subject call on the 2300 block of South Marshall Street. When officers arrived, they discovered a 31 Asian female who had been shot multiple times. She has been identified as Lethanaphone Onesy from 400 Wolf Street.
Police Real-Time Crime Unit saw two black males enter a house on the 700 Ritner Street. shortly after the shooting. One male came out and ran from nearby officers. They found him and found a handgun on him. When the second male exited the house, officers found a gun on him as well. Both were taken to Homicide for investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that the victim and another male were walking on Marshall Street when they were approached by three males, one of whom was on a bike. One of the suspects grabbed the female victim while another held the male companion at gunpoint. The third suspect remained on the bike as a lookout. The suspect holding the victim then fired multiple shots, fatally wounding her before all the offenders fled the scene.
The suspects have been identified as 32-year-old Carey Jones from 2300 Pierce Street and 35-year-old Sherman Carney from 500 Tree Street. Both males are charged with Murder and related offenses. Police did not give a motive for the shooting.
