5200 Red Light Camera Warnings Issued In One Month

In the first 30 days since the Red Light Camera program went live in Bensalem, police said that 5200 violations were detected. All got warnings and not tickets. The tickets will start on 12:01 AM June 1, 2024. They are $100.00 and do not carry any points.
Police said that motorists that have the front of their vehicle behind the white stop line on the roadway when the traffic signal turns red, and the vehicle continues through the intersection despite the red signal. That will result in a ticket. Going through a yellow light and the rear wheels are behind the stop line and the light turns red will not be considered a violation.
Vehicles in the intersection when the light turns red will not be in violation either. Police ask that motorists should slow down and be prepared to stop as the red-light activation is imminent, when they approach a yellow light.
The township does not get a penny from this program, police said. All of the money comes from violators. If you assume that all of these 5200 people got tickets and all pay, that is $520,000 revenue for a third party in one month.
Motorists can challenge their violation and have a closed door hearing at the township building. They can be found not in violation. If they are found to be in violation, an appeal can go all the way to Doylestown. Those that do not pay , will be subject to collections. Police are not going to arrest people for not paying violations.
There are two intersections that have this camera program. Knights and Street Roads and Route 1 and Old Lincoln Highway
