Local Fire Chief Resigns After Trump Assassination Attempt Remarks.

“A little to the right next time please”. That was the statement that Jim Simmonds, a fire chief of the Prospect Park Fire Company and also the borough fire marshal has caused so much controversy for Simmonds that he was forced to resign both positions.
When the post was made ( and later deleted), on Facebook, it stirred up a firestorm of emotions. Borough officials met with Simmonds It was at this meeting that they accepted his immediate resignation from his positions. In a Facebvook post, the fire company wrote in part:
“The Prospect Park Fire Company does not condone this type of behavior by our members or our leadership” said Chairman Magee. “We are deeply saddened by Chief Simmonds comments and agreed that it would be best if he stepped down in his role as Chief.”
Our hearts go out to Corey Comperatore and his family. The man is a true hero and was a dedicated member of the fire service. The Board of Trustees encourages all to donate to the Comperatore family GoFundMe page.

Simmonds has received backlash from his post, which included 20 comments and several reactions before he removed it. President Joe Biden called for the country to tone down the rhetoric and come together. He also said using the words “Trump is In a bullseye” was wrong”
Simmonds has said that his comments were “stupid and terrible”.
